Epperson reported to Students for Academic Freedom · 13 November 2005
In his recent article (Epperson Reported to Students for Academic Freedom, 11/02) Kelli Herzberg claims that our organization, Students for Academic Freedom, "is widely accepted as a right-wing organization." This is news to us.
Students for Academic Freedom is a non-partisan, viewpoint neutral organization. We have defended both liberal and conservative students and accept complaint postings from students of all political stripes in our academic freedom forums. Our academic freedom campaign asks universities to promote intellectual diversity, civility and fairness on America's college campuses. There is nothing "right-wing" partisan about this agenda.
Furthermore, we are in agreement with the professors quoted in your article that professors should be granted the same rights as any citizen in discussing politics outside of the classroom, but should take care not to inflict those views upon students when teaching.
Sincerely,
Sara Dogan
National Campus Director
